The Flag of Mercury, designed by J. Alfary, represents the planet Mercury itself and its distance to the Sun. 

• Yellow represents our Sun and the massive amounts of heat and solar radiation falling on Mercury every day.
• Red represents the planet Mercury, its high temperatures, its rocky surface, and its constant defiance of the Sun.
